A 56-year-old woman has been charged with a variety of offenses after allegedly striking a motorcyclist and then fleeing the scene.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the motorcyclist, a 41-year-old man, was traveling east on a Harley Davidson Road Glide on Interstate 10 when he slowed or stopped. The woman allegedly struck the motorcycle from behind while in a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The motorcyclist was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, located in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities located the woman and her vehicle about 20 minutes later. She reportedly suffered minor injuries from the collision. Information from a reported witness led authorities to the woman and her vehicle.
The woman is now facing charges for driving on a suspended license, hit-and-run, DUI, vehicular manslaughter and murder. According to the news reports, she has at least one other arrest, which was also for suspicion of DUI involving a collision.
