It is a given fact that traffic along California's freeway system is congested. Midday, thousands of drivers are jockeying for their place on the roadway, attempting to get to their destination within a reasonable period of time. Sometimes, this works; however, there are times when traffic flow simply does not make this possible. Then, when there is a catastrophe such as a truck accident, such an attempt becomes a nightmare.
Recently, such an accident shut down all lanes of the 10 Freeway when a concrete pump truck crossed the median, causing a series of accidents. Reports indicate that the truck was headed westbound and then suddenly charged through the guardrail and crossed the median. As it veered into eastbound traffic, fire could be seen coming from the truck.
As the truck continued on, it hit at least five other vehicles. Additionally, a number of other vehicles sustained fire damage. In all, five individuals died as a result of the accident. Traffic came to a standstill, and the freeway was shut down for a number of hours. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, and California authorities are still conducting their investigation into what caused the truck to crash as it did.
In a situation such as this one, multiple families are left to grieve the loss of loved ones.
