Three teenagers' lives were recently cut short as a result of a fiery motor vehicle wreck in Southern California. The collision was apparently the result of a driver who police said was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Fortunately, those who lose loved ones in car accidents caused by alleged drunk drivers have the right to hold these drivers accountable through the civil court system.
The collision took place at about 1 a.m. on a Thursday. According to police, four teenagers from a different state were spending their spring break in California when the crash happened. The teenagers had reportedly come to a halt at a red light along Pacific Coast Highway when another motor vehicle hit the back side of their car.
Police said the teenagers' car then caught fire. Three of the teenagers died in the collision. Meanwhile, the fourth teen was taken to the hospital with injuries. The 27-year-old driver of the motor vehicle that struck the teenagers' car was arrested for vehicular manslaughter.
The grieving loved ones of the teenagers who passed away in the accident may decide to file wrongful death claims against the reportedly at-fault driver, seeking damages. Likewise, the injured car passenger may file a personal injury claim. Liability has to be established before a civil court before a judge will adjudicate claims for financial damages. No amount of money can undo the events leading to the deaths and injuries resulting from the accident. However, monetary compensation may help with addressing funeral costs, hospital bills and other losses tied to these types of fatal car accidents in California.
