A man recently lost his life in a tragic California wreck. The serious accident took place on a Tuesday night. Another man was arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges the following Sunday in connection with the accident.
The crash occurred at around 9:45 p.m. According to police, a 22-year-old man was going west along an avenue when his car hit a raised median close to State Route 76. The vehicle flipped over and rolled several times. It then came to a stop on the opposite side of the street. The man ended up passing away at the crash scene.
Authorities later learned that the accident happened when a 29-year-old man, who was in the process of making a U-turn, hit the car operated by the 22-year-old man and then fled the scene. Police later found and arrested the man, who faces hit-and-run charges along with vehicular manslaughter. Authorities said they were not sure if alcohol was a causal factor in the crash.
The surviving loved ones of the deceased victim in this serious accident may decide to file a wrongful death claim against the man who reportedly caused the accident, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the accused man ends up being convicted on the criminal charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in civil court to establish negligence per se for the fatal accident. A successfully presented civil court case might lead to a monetary judgment that may help with covering funeral costs and other financial losses related to the California car crash.
