Five people's lives have been cut short in a tragic motor vehicle collision in California. The serious accident took place along Highway 43 on a recent Sunday night. In the accident, a car ended up being split in half as a result of the fatal impact.
According to authorities, a man was driving a car along the highway. All of a sudden, a pickup truck struck the car head-on. The man who was driving, along with his son and two daughters in the car, died at the crash scene. Meanwhile, a second son suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The woman who was driving the pickup truck ended up passing away in the car crash as well. Authorities said alcohol may have been a causal factor in the collision. They continued to investigate the accident.
The surviving loved ones of the individuals who died in the car may choose to file wrongful death claims, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. In addition, the injured party in the car may choose to file a personal injury claim. Although the pickup truck driver who reportedly caused the accident died in the crash, too, her estate may be sued. Likewise, anyone with an ownership interest in the pickup truck may be named in a wrongful death lawsuit.
Liability must be established before the civil court hearing the case; otherwise, no claims for damages will be adjudicated. A successfully fought claim may lead to a monetary damage award that might help to cover burial costs, hospital bills and other expenses tied to the serious accident. Damages cannot undo the events leading to the accident, but they may help the grieving loved ones of the accident victims to more easily move on from the tragedy in California.
