A scientist recently lost her life in a tragic motor vehicle collision that took place in California. Three other people also suffered injuries in the serious accident. The woman who passed away in the collision was 66 years old.
The car crash took place along Lakeville Highway at a little before 7:15 a.m. on a Tuesday. According to authorities, a pickup truck driver, 19, breached the highway's double yellow lines and then entered oncoming traffic. Authorities said they did not know why the teenage driver went over the highway's center lines.
The teen driver and her passenger, 50, suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. Another driver, 22, was also struck in the collision and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. However, the 66-year-old scientist lost her life in the wreck. She was known both nationally and internationally for her work in the area of ocean health and coral reefs.
The surviving loved ones of the scientist who passed away in the California collision may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the teen driver who reportedly caused the serious accident. Likewise, the injured parties may decide to file personal injury claims against the teen, seeking damages. Competent proof of negligence -- such as driving while distracted or speeding -- is necessary to establish liability before the civil court hearing the case. Only then will claims for damages be determined. A successfully fought claim might result in a financial award that may help with covering burial costs, hospital expenses and other related losses.
