Three individuals in California lost their lives in a car crash that occurred on a recent Tuesday. The serious accident reportedly stemmed from a motorist's decision to drive while impaired by cannabis. Two of the individuals who died in the collision were juveniles.
The tragedy occurred at a little past 10 p.m. According to authorities, the impaired driver was speeding and operating the vehicle recklessly at the time of the accident. The driver suffered no injuries in the collision. However, five other people suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Three people died as a result of their crash injuries. Following the accident, debris from the cars could be seen covering a stretch of Interstate 880, where the wreck occurred. Two cars were decimated in the crash, with their exteriors being shredded due to the impact. The driver who police said caused the wreck was arrested for driving under the influence shortly thereafter.
The surviving family members of the individuals who died in this serious accident may choose to file wrongful death claims against the driver believed to have caused the crash. Likewise, injured parties may choose to file personal injury claims against the motorist, seeking reimbursement for monetary damages sustained. If the driver ends up being convicted of driving under the influence, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding to establish negligence per se. Once liability is established before the civil court hearing the case in California, claims for damages will be adjudicated.
