Car accidents may occur due to DUI, improper passing

Two individuals sadly lost their lives in a motor vehicle collision in California. Two other people were hurt in the crash as well. These types of car accidents can easily occur due to the carelessness of a motorist, which is grounds for litigation.

The collision occurred at about 9:38 p.m. According to police, a sport utility vehicle was going north along Highway 43. A car that was in front of the SUV slowed down in preparation for making a left turn onto another street. Police said, at that time, the SUV began to pass traffic by using the highway's southbound lane.

As the car tried to complete its left turn, the SUV reportedly struck the car's left side. Two passengers were thrown from their vehicle and ended up dying from their injuries. Meanwhile, another passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The SUV driver also suffered injuries and was taken into custody for driving while under the influence after receiving medical treatment.

The passengers who were hurt in the California car accident may choose to file personal injury claims against the SUV driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the driver ends up with a DUI conviction in criminal court, proof of the conviction may be presented in an effort to establish liability in a related civil court proceeding. Liability must be established before claims for damages will be determined. A successfully fought claim may lead to a monetary damage award that might help with addressing hospital bills and other losses stemming from these types of car accidents.
