Serious accident claims 1 life, leads to DUI arrest

A man has sadly lost his life in a California car accident. The serious accident occurred late at night on a recent Tuesday. According to authorities, another man's decision to drink and drive caused the tragic collision.

The crash happened at about 11:35 p.m. Police said a man was driving a car and all of a sudden struck a pickup truck. The pickup truck ended up hitting a dump truck that was in a construction zone along Interstate 805. The man who was in the pickup truck suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital but subsequently passed away.

The man who reportedly struck him stayed at the crash scene. Police then arrested the man, said to be 29 years old, after suspecting that he caused the accident due to driving under the influence. He was held on a bail of $750,000 pending his arraignment.

The surviving loved ones of the man who died may opt to file a wrongful death claim against the man who was arrested for drinking and driving. If this man ends up being convicted on his criminal charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability. Once this occurs, the court will adjudicate documented claims for financial damages. If the plaintiffs are successful in their case in California, they may receive monetary compensation that might help them to cover funeral costs and even the loss of income for surviving dependents. The monetary damages may also help with addressing pain and suffering as well as emotional distress caused by the serious accident.
