Alleged DUI car accident claims 1 life, multiple injuries

A man recently passed away in an automobile accident in California. In addition, multiple people suffered injuries in the crash. A woman was arrested in connection with the car accident for allegedly driving under the influence.

The accident involved a single motor vehicle and happened at about 2 a.m. on a Tuesday. Police said the woman was driving the car at a high rate of speed following a night of partying. According to police, her vehicle ended up crashing into a pole.

The woman suffered moderate injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence. Meanwhile, her male front seat passenger, said to be 28 years old, passed away at the crash scene. Three other passengers in the car, who are in their 20s, apparently suffered moderate injuries.

The loved ones of the man who suffered fatal injuries in the California car accident may decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the woman who is facing charges for drunk driving. In the same manner, the other passengers may file personal injury lawsuits against her, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the woman ends up with a drunk driving conviction in connection with the car accident, the plaintiffs may present proof of the conviction in civil court to establish negligence per se regarding the car accident. A civil case that is fought successfully may lead to a financial damage award that might help with addressing burial costs, hospital expenses and/or other monetary losses stemming from the tragic motor vehicle wreck.
